During my recent travels I found myself mesmerised by the beauty of the Venetian glass beads. As I wandered through the narrow lanes lined with boutique jewellery stores, I floated from one decorated window to another, laiden with earrings, rings, bracelets, charms, necklaces, any and every beautiful accessory incorporating these captivating sparkles of handmade beads.
I chatted to the friendly local owners and learned that these Venetian glass beads were lampworked from Murano glass using old traditional methods where the Italian bead maker would skilfully labour over an open flame for long hours to produce them from molten Moretti Effetre glass rods.
Being captured by this art and the colour and beauty of these Venetian glass beads, and after much discussion and persuasion of these local owners, I managed to bring some back home, to my loyal customers….
And even without the picturesque backdrop of St Mark’s Square speckled with white pigeons and filled with enchanting music and the aroma of fresh Italian coffee served by handsomely dressed waiters, you cannot escape the beauty of this handmade collection.
